Nicolas Cage as Everyone

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Did you know there is a site dedicated to Nic Cage’s seemingly super ability to play practically any role?

NOT!!! hahaha

But there is a renowned blog site now where the popular actor’s face is regularly seen as virtually any recognizable character under the sun. The site itself has been getting raves for a few months now.

Prospective contributors can use any image manipulating software and insert Cage’s mug over the persona of their choice.

Here are just some of the sample pictures from the site:

As Hellboy? Kanye West? Howard Stern? Conan O’Brien? These are just some more of the other characters Nic is seen as on the site. Although there are some images that are obviously just for fun and parody, there are those of very good quality. Makes you think how many people out there have so much free time. :-)

You can take a look at the site yourself at… http://niccageaseveryone.blogspot.com/

Enjoy!

The Men Who Stare At Goats

Friday, August 28th, 2009

It’s actually a non-fiction bestseller written by Jon Ronson tackling the U.S. Army’s exploration of New Age concepts and the potential military applications of the paranormal.

But hey, you have to admit. That’s quite a catchy title for a book. Right?

You can just bet Hollywood won’t stop with it simply being that. :-)

And true enough, latest news have it that the film adaptation of the said book is now out of production.

It’s starring 4 versatile actors that are great in any other genre, but seemingly at their best when in comedy. The upcoming offbeat comical flick casts George ClooneyEwan McGregorKevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges.

And adding to the winning formula is the funny actor-producer-writer Grant Heslov who was tagged to direct the film.

Grant Heslov

If the guy looks familiar it’s because you might have seen him playing various roles in major movies like True Lies, Scorpion King, Congo, Dante’s Peak, The Birdcage, Enemy of the State, etc.

As with the book, the inspired-by-real-life movie offers glimpses into a secret Army unit tasked with creating soldiers with paranormal powers. Powers as strange as the ability to pass through walls, tell the future, and even the absurd “cloud bursting”. Now with just that description alone, the movie is already a must see for me. hehehe

And with the movie up for release this coming 6th of November, the latest trailer is now out.

I’m predicting that as more advertisements come out, clamor for this absurdly interesting movie will definitely increase within the coming months.

Cloverfield Easter Eggs

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

I was hoping to see the movie Cloverfield while it was still showing in theaters last year. But as with the latest series of major movies hitting the big screen, I eventually missed on catching this one too.

Bedridden since a few days back, I luckily chanced upon this movie in HBO.

Cloverfield Poster

The entire film is shown to look as if it were a video recording recovered by the US Department of Defense. A presentation style not unlike how the movie Blair Witch Project did it around 10 years ago.

Since its official release, the movie has gotten a lot of mixed reviews. Some loved the relatively distinct perspective used in presenting the story. Some hated that it only took around 75 minutes to finish. With this particular film, I will leave the formal reviews to the experts.

Before seeing the movie, I was aware of at least two easter eggs hidden in the film:

  • a background scene near the end where something was shown mysteriously falling from the sky
  • a barely audible clip at the end of the credits saying something like… “help us” but when played in reverse (backmasked) actually says… “it’s still alive”

That was until I saw this clip on the web. It discusses the items above, as well as a third easter egg that I was previously unaware of.

The third secret is a dharma logo ingeniously hidden in a frame of the film. As you may know, Cloverfield is produced by J. J. Abrams — the same person who produces the hit TV series “Lost“.  Thus, the dharma connection.

By the way, since Abrams also produced the recent movie adaptation of Star Trek, there was also a scene in that film connecting it to Cloverfield.

With all these, one can’t help to think that a Cloverfield 2 movie might be coming out soon. :-)

Airbender Trailer

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

It’s here now! :-)

The first official trailer for M. Night’s movie rendition of the popular animated series from Nickelodeon – Avatar: The Last Air Bender – is now out for public viewing.

Noticeably, the film has now been re-titled to The Last Airbender. This is clearly to avoid confusion with another upcoming movie from James Cameron bearing the title Avatar.

Still slated to be released for July next year, this movie has already gotten a lot of mixed reactions from fans of Aang and the other characters from the show. There are considerable concerns on how Shyamalan would handle production of the live action adaptation. Everyone is hoping that the acclaimed director remains loyal to the “spirit” or true essence of the original story line.

There had already been a lot “discussed” about the casting choice for the key roles in the movie. But hard core fans are still worried that the movie might end up having the now almost “distinct” feel from M. Night’s movies.

Here is what’s known so far as cast selection is concerned:

  • Noah Ringer, an acting newcomer will play the main protagonist of the story — Aang
  • Nicola Peltz, will play Katara of the Water nation
  • Jackson Rathbone, from Twilight fame will play Katara’s brother — Sokka
  • Jessica Jade Andres, will play Sokka’s Kyoshi warrior love interest — Suki
  • Dev Patel, from the recent hit Slumdog Millionaire gets to play the primary antagonist in the story, the exiled prince of the Fire nation — Zuko

Avatar Characters

Based from this trailer, I think the movie could still be on its way to being a very good one. Hopefully, the feeling eventually translate for the entire movie.

Total Recall… Again!

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Its back!   :-)

And according to Columbia Pictures, this remake is going to be a “contemporized adaptation”.

Total Recall

For those that can still remember, the original movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and is about a man who persistently experienced dream flashes of going to Mars. The story plot unveils as Arnold’s character buys a literal dream vacation from an aptly named company — Rekall Inc., (hence the movie title) which sells implanted memories.

Kurt Wimmer, (responsible for Equilibrium and Ultraviolet) has been tagged to write the remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 movie. At the moment though, there is no confirmation yet whether Wimmer has also been asked to direct the movie as well. For this project, he would be working on his own adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s literary work We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. This is the original novelette where the story for the original movie was based.

Wimmer seems to have a pattern in churning out work that develops specific cult following rather than becoming box office blockbusters. Hopefully this remake turns out well.
