V-League (04/30/09)
It was a really rainy Thursday and the roads have been wet all day. As expected, there were lot of spots around the metro with a bit of traffic. All these caused me to arrive late for the first game. It was already well past half the second set when I got to find a place to position myself.
It was the lady Falcons of Adamson going against the lady Blazers of Saint Benilde with the former taking the first set. The San Marcelino ladies must have been really missing the services of their guest player Nene Bautista, Lilet Mabbayad and setter Janet Serafica, as they consequently lost the second and third sets. The CSB ladies on the other hand, were very passionate in their efforts as lead by Maureen Penetrante, Katty Kwan, Cindy Velasquez, Giza Yumang, Zharmaine Velez and Renilyne Kara Agero. The game came to a fifth deciding set with the defending champion Falcons surviving the spirited stand of the Blazers. The undermanned Adamson banked on their dependable infantry led by Sang Laguilles, Pau Soriano, Angela Benting and unheralded Angelica Quinlog.
AdU vs CSB - (25-20, 18-25, 24-26, 26-24, 15-10)
The second game was a battle between the two teams on the bottom of the standings. It was UP against Lyceum. The girls from the state university had a very strong start. They drew first blood via points from attacks by Jed Montero and Rubie de Leon. But they couldn’t keep up with the seemingly more vigorous lady Pirates. The first two sets went in favor of Lyceum headed by Joy Cases, Syvie Artates and Dahlia Cruz. But the league-debuting lady maroons took a valiant stand and got the third set through the combined lead efforts of South Ramos and Joyce Palad. Nonetheless, the girls from Muralla proved they wanted the win more; finishing off the game on the fourth set.
LPU vs UP - (25-19, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19)
I was very appreciative that the v-league schedule have days where 3 games are slated for play. And this day was one of them. I really didn’t mind rushing the rain and traffic to watch the games, but third games just make it all more worthwhile and gratifying.
The last game was between the ladies of Ateneo and San Sebastian. The lady eagles had a slow start and was only able to muster an effective counter in the late half of the second set. It led to a very exciting and hard fought third set. But the lady stags took the game in 3 sets nevertheless. Thai import Bualee Jaroensri, Lou Ann Latigay and Suzanne Roces all combined to help with the win. While the Ateneo-OraCare girls was led by their Thai import Keawbundit Sontaya, Charo Soriano, Dzi Gervacio, Fille Cainglet and Gretchen Ho.
SSC-R vs ADMU - (25-17, 25-18, 28-26)
The games ended at around past eight that evening. But no complaints. As a matter of fact, I look forward to get the chance and see another 3-gamer day. I just wished my usual companions Dennis and Anna were there also.
