Aliwan 2009

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Its been raining almost everyday that week. So everyone was expecting it to be a wet Sunday. But somebody must have offered a lot of eggs to the Sta. Clara convent and help keep the sun up that day. It was bright and sunny from morning to early afternoon. :-)

I arrived later than my previous visits to the Aliwan Festival this year. The traffic rerouting and impending rain (seems the eggs were not enough after all) kept me stuck for a good hour and a half inside a cab. It was almost 5pm and the sun was already going down when I arrived at the starting area. I did get the chance to meet up with some old friends and fellow photographers as well.

Aliwan festival is an annual event where different contingents from cultural festivals of the Philippines gather to participate in dance parade and float competitions. So if you missed going to Sinulog of Cebu, Ati-atihan of Aklan, Dinagyang of Iloilo, or other famous Philippine festivals, this gathering offers the best chance to still catch a feel of it.

Here are just some of the few shots I managed to get from this year’s activities.

Recovery Song

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

I’ve been down with flu for the last 4 days. During times like these, I normally get extremely frustrated. Consequently, I get to have a lot of free personal time. But ironically, I can’t do anything except lay in bed and rest.

It doesn’t help that local TV programs are mostly composed of unbearable soap operas and game shows. Initially, I do get to enjoy cable. But you see, this is mostly good for probably only the first 2 days or so. Then, realization sinks in that cable simply just have reruns after reruns after reruns.

I stared blankly out the window and maybe because I heard the song or saw the MTV a week ago. Somehow, for most of my recent bedridden days, I ended up having this song set on endless loop in my head…

Contest to Join

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

I’ve been noticing a lot of my friends are posting their summer vacation pictures on the web. Since most of the photos I see are pictures on the beach, I remembered this online ad for a contest I saw a couple of weeks ago. The contest theme is about “Sun and Sand”, so I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be that hard to find snaps that will fit that requirement.

The prize for the contest; among others is a trip to Boracay and a brand new Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera from Sony.

A300

Revilla vs Baldwin!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Guess who Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is threatening these days?

He has now gone international as the local action star turned politician threatened to beat Alec Baldwin over some remarks made about acquiring a mail order bride from the Philippines.

The hostile reaction was brought about by Baldwin’s response to a question during the May 12 episode of “The Late Show with David Letterman“. Baldwin was asked about having more kids. And he responded, “I’m thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point… or a Russian one.” Letterman responded with a laugh, and said, “get one for me, for later.
