Now Showing: The Hunt for Gollum
Finally got to catch the release of “By Fan for Fan” flick The Hunt for Gollum. And I must say it went beyond my expectations. By no means is it perfect. But for me, it gets pretty considerable marks in most of the aspects you look for in a movie. I am no film expert, but here is how my rating would go.
Cinematography – Very good
Acting – Slightly Above Average
Screenplay – Average
Sound Mixing/Scoring – Above Average
The trailers and the official site turned out to be really good indicators of what to expect from the short film.
The story was pretty much straight and simple. But it could really serve as a good introductory supplement to the Fellowship of the Rings. The lead actors really did have striking resemblances to how their characters were depicted in the Peter Jackson movies.

Except for some scenes near the end which I found too dark, the scenes and images were relatively impeccable. The musical scoring for the film is also commendable. If you saw the film and didn’t know who or how it was made, you would get a feel that its from a major production outfit.
I was hooked in front of my screen for most of the 40-minute run of the film.
I don’t know for how long they would have it out for free on the internet. But last time I checked, you can still catch it on their website.
Oh, and don’t forget to catch the behind-the-scenes clips while the credits roll in the end. I didn’t know orcs could dance that good.
